New Jersey Capital State Park
In 2008, the large parking lot adjacent to the NJ State House was demolished to make way for a new park that would reinforce the State House as a powerful anchor to the site. WRT was selected to design a new state park. The park’s design alludes to New Jersey’s Garden State status by using only native species of trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses, and showcases various means of storm water collection throughout the 7-acre site. Its large oval lawn for public gatherings and casual recreation visually connects the Memorial Hall to the State House complex.
The project’s second phase, which is ongoing, is built around an archeological dig that exposes pre-Revolutionary artifacts of Trenton’s industrial past.
